Founded on trust, transparency and motivation

The Smartway Pharmaceuticals story starts with an old-fashioned pharmacy in Battersea and a lady who understood the importance of trust and motivation.

With nobody to take over the family business, Mrs Elliot was inundated with offers for this great location in an up-and-coming part of London. But one offer stood out.

Three years after graduating from Portsmouth University, Hitu Patel was ready to build his own pharmacy business. He had drive, commitment, and a deep desire to give every patient an exceptional level of service.

What he didn’t have was money to pay for the business.

Recognising potential

Mrs Elliot recognised Hitu’s potential and, keen to give someone a chance to succeed, gave him the business. He would only repay his debt when the business grew to success.

A track record of success

Since that first pharmacy, Smartway has come a long way. Today, we’re proud to give customers, partners and patients the same care and quality worldwide.

1992

Hitu buys his first pharmacy and starts building a successful business.

1998

We branched out into wholesaling and successfully secured a WDA.

2008

After buying our first independent warehouse, we began expanding our customer and supplier network. We also opened our first office in India, making this a pivotal year.

2011

Now the proud owners of multiple warehouses, we began running operations 24 hours a day to ensure an efficient, timely service.

2014

With increasing demand and a need for more space, we moved to our new premises in Wimbledon, where we are still based today.

2016

We opened our offices in Dubai and, in the following two years, an additional office in Kosovo.

2019

Josh Cocklin joined our team as Chief Executive, bringing regulatory expertise and a forward-thinking, innovative approach.

2020

We continue to grow on a global scale, recruiting the best people to guarantee the best service. We were also proud to be recognised for a second time in the Sunday Times PWC Top Track 250, increasing our rank to #89.

Smartway is an MHRA approved wholesaler of pharmaceutical products with Wholesale Distribution Authorisation (Human & Veterinary) issued by the British Government

Smartway is registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC). GPhC Registration No. 2068514. Pharmacy Registration No. 9010774

Smartway has a Controlled Drug Licence (Schedule 2, 3, 4 [Part I & II] &5) issued by the Home Office department of the British Government
